COLLABORATORS DSR Branding CHALLENGE John Kyle Espresso had built a loyal local following across it’s two locations on the Sunshine Coast. The challenge was giving new meaning to an old name and elevating the brand to attract travelling cafe customers without losing the warmth and familiarity that locals already loved.
SOLUTION Conversations with the locals revealed the real value of JK wasn’t just the coffee — it was the feeling of being part of the family. We brought this to life through an illustrated character named ‘JK,’ representing the confidence to step outside your comfort zone and have a bit of fun. A bold wordmark, a quirky type pairing, and a Forest Green and Sand palette, created a brand that felt playful, humble and welcoming all at once.
RESULT The refreshed identity was quickly embraced by both customers and staff, strengthening the sense of community the café is known for. It also gave the team a clear, expressive brand personality they could confidently bring to life across packaging, merch and social content.
